Driver – Tour Guide Wanted: June 20, 2019.

Antique Touring Company is hiring for the position of Driver-Tour Guide. The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate(s) will be to deliver quality historical tours in and around Detroit and chauffer guests for special events and occasions in our company’s antique Model A Fords. The position is part time, 15 to 35 hours/week and pays $21/hour.

Driver-Guide Responsibilities:

  • To safely drive guests on historical tours as well as to and from special events and occasions;

  • To enthusiastically, accurately and completely deliver historical tour information to tour guests as provided by Antique Touring Company;

  • To look over the vehicle for safety and operability before the start of each tour day and record observations in the vehicle’s maintenance log;

  • To perform routine maintenance tasks required for optimum safety and operability before the start of the day’s tours;

  • To come to work each day dressed in period style circa 1928 to 1931;

  • To wear a formal chauffer’s uniform when required;

  • To check the company’s calendar each day for upcoming tour assignments;

  • To take photographs of guests in the antique cars and give the photos to Tour Support personnel upon return to the garage;

  • To bring fliers on tour for accommodating curious passers-by without taking up too much tour time;

  • To ensure that the following is present in the car before the start of each tour: insurance card, registration, clock, first-aid kit, tool roll, emergency kit, troubleshooting book, quality camera or iPhone, fliers, maintenance log;

  • To train on driving the Model A Ford and demonstrate an ability to drive it safely;

  • To train on one of Antique Touring Company’s tours and demonstrate an ability to deliver it;

Qualifications:

To be considered for an interview, candidates must have the following qualifications:
  • A clean driving record from the state of Michigan;

  • 10 years or more of licensed experience driving a car;

  • A demonstrated appreciation for the history of Detroit and nearby communities;

  • An upbeat, cheerful personality;

  • A history of mechanical aptitude;

  • Three references un-related to the candidate at least one of whom must be a former employer.

Additional Qualifications:

  • During the first interview candidates will be given historical information to study and will demonstrate their ability to retain that information during the second interview.

  • After a two-week trial period, continued employment of the candidate is contingent upon his or her demonstrating the ability to safely drive a car with a three-speed, un-synchronized manual transmission.

“Plus” Qualities:

  • Chauffer’s License or CDL;

  • Living close to the Woodward corridor in Detroit or Highland Park.
